All Portable Fire Extinguishers in commercial or public buildings should be visually inspected on a monthly basis by the owner to ensure they are in their correct location and for any signs of damage and in accordance with BS5306-3:2009 they must be serviced on an annual basis by a qualified engineer. Water, foam and powder extinguishers must be discharge tested and refilled every five years and CO2 every ten years. After an extinguisher has been used, even if it has only been partially used, it must be recharged by a qualified engineer to BS5306-3:2009 standards.
